Paperboard Renewable. Recyclable. Remarkable.
FAQs

Q. Can I recycle printed paperboard? Shiny paperboard? Any paperboard?
A. Yes. Yes. Yes. Paperboard is recyclable. If paperboard recycling is not available then contact your recycling center and waste management company!

Q. What's so great about trees?
A. It has been said that trees are the only abundant, biodegradable and renewable global resource. Plus, growing pine trees absorb up to half their weight in harmful carbon.

Q. But when you cut down a tree, doesn't carbon return to the atmosphere?
A. No. Only when wood burns or decays.

Q. For cleaner air, shouldn't we cut down fewer trees?
A.
No. We should use more wood and grow more trees to replace it. Using wood from managed forests can positively impact the environment. Regrowth forests are powerful greenhouse gas absorbers.

Q. Why should we use more wood?
A. In order to use less plastic, steel and concrete—each of which create large amounts of carbon when they are produced. Plus, they take thousands of years to breakdown into natural elements.

Q. Are old growth forests used in making paperboard?
A. No. Graphic Packaging uses only trees grown and harvested following sustainable forestry practices. That means, no rainforest trees are cut down to make paperboard packaging.

A young pine tree is like a greenhouse gas vacuum, sucking up and storing half its weight in carbon. As the tree ages, the vacuum effect slows. So for every older tree that is harvested, 5 new saplings are planted, helping to clean the air, by reducing the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
We make our paperboard out of pine trees from managed forests that follow sustainable forestry practices. And it can be recycled up to 7 times before it's finally used for things like soil enhancers.
Trees are the world's most renewable resource. What's more, our paperboard is also manufactured, delivered and recycled using renewable energy. Using up fossil fuels when we don't have to doesn't make a lot of sense, today or in the future.
